I LAUNCHED BLK DNM IN 2011 TO CREATE A BRAND THAT REFLECTED THE LIFE I WANTED TO LIVE. A BRAND INSPIRED BY THE POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT I GREW UP IN, WHERE PEOPLE STEPPED OUT ONTO THE STREETS AND SAID WHAT THEY BELIEVED WAS RIGHT.

I LEFT BLK DNM IN 2015 TO BE ABLE TO PURSUE MY PASSION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM. BUT TWO YEARS AGO MY DAUGHTER BLUE TOLD ME TO GO BACK TO BLK DNM AS SHE THOUGHT I WAS MISSING A PLATFORM WHERE I COULD EXPRESS MYSELF. SO NOW I AM BACK AND EXCITED TO EXPRESS NEW IDEAS. THE BLK DNM COMMUNITY STANDS FOR EQUALITY AND A BORDERLESS COMMUNITY. THAT’S HOW I GREW UP. I SEE BLK DNM AS A FILM PROJECT. I FEEL NATURALLY MORE CONNECTED WITH FILM DIRECTORS THAN WITH DESIGNERS, AND THE NARRATIVE YOU CAN CREATE WITH FILM. I AM VERY EXCITED TO START BLK DNM CHAPTER 2.

BLK DNM ALWAYS HAD A PHILOSOPHY OF CREATING WARDROBE CLASSICS. TO DEVELOP ICONIC SEASONLESS PIECES WITH THE OPTIMAL FIT. IT SHOULD JUST CLICK WHEN YOU TRY IT ON. TO CREATE AN ENTIRE, NEW COLLECTION EVERY SEASON HAS NEVER MADE SENSE TO ME. I DON’T THINK BLK DNM WILL EVER DO FASHION SHOWS. IT DOESN’T FEEL SUSTAINABLE TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT ONLY LASTS FOR A FEW MINUTES. I RATHER WANT TO CREATE DIFFERENT IDEAS THAT CAN INSPIRE. WHEN WE LAUNCHED THE BRAND IN 2011, IT WAS IN AN ART GALLERY IN DOWNTOWN NYC WITH A FILM CALLED FILM 1. IT WAS INSPIRED BY MY DIVORCE THE YEAR BEFORE; I WANTED TO USE A NEW DIRECTION IN LIFE TO EXPRESS CREATIVITY. NOW WE BEGIN CHAPTER TWO: A CONTINUED SEARCH PROCESS INTO HOW BLK DNM CAN BE A PLATFORM WHERE WE CAN FIGHT FOR OUR VALUES. WE WANT TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER, TO STAND BEHIND A UNIFIED VOICE. I WANT THE VOICE OF BLK DNM TO CONTINUE.

BLK DNM WAS BORN IN DOWNTOWN NYC. A CITY WHERE I LIVED FOR 20 YEARS. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT NYC IS THAT IT’S A BORDERLESS COMMUNITY. NO ONE CARES ABOUT PASSPORTS OR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN OR RELIGION. WE NOW START CHAPTER 2 FROM STOCKHOLM. BUT IT DOESN’T MEAN WE ARE A SWEDISH BRAND. WE ARE A BRAND WITHOUT A FLAG. IF WE DO HAVE A FLAG, IT’S OUR OWN. I REALLY BELIEVE IN A BORDERLESS COMMUNITY AND CREATIVITY THAT IS BEYOND RELIGION, BORDERS OR POLITICIANS. WHO KNOWS – MAYBE BLK DNM WILL BECOME A NEW POLITICAL PARTY?
